Disneyland Paris tops online overseas holiday searches
Disneyland Paris is the top most searched for foreign destination on the internet by UK users.
Tenerife, Cyprus, Spain and Majorca were behind the Paris theme park while the number of searches for ‘Malta holidays’ tripled year on year in the four weeks to July 14.
Analysis by online research firm Hitwise reveals that consumer search behaviour changes based on the season.
As UK holidaymakers book summer holidays, internet searches that include the word “holidays” rise whilst in the winter months, weekend breaks lead to more internet searches that include the word “flights”.
UK online searches that include the word “holidays” rose by 20% in the past three months, while searches that included the word “flights” increased only 7%.
Searches that include the word “holidays” outstripped those with “flights” by 13%. Contrast that to December 2006, when the share of internet searches that include the keyword “flights” outstripped those for “holidays” by 22%, according to Hitwise
The top non-branded search terms containing the word “holidays” were “holidays”, “cheap holidays”, “package holidays” and “all inclusive holidays”.
A number of the top 20 destinations saw an increase in share of UK internet searches compared with the same period last year.
Searches for “Cyprus holidays” increased by 74% and searches for “flights to Turkey” saw an increase of 50%.
Eighth-placed “Las Vegas” searches were up 39% and Visit Las Vegas www.visitlasvegas.com was the top recipient of traffic from searches. Variations on “las vegas” included “las vegas hotels”, “las vegas shows” and “las vegas holidays”.
