Do you want tonic with that tonic, sir?
DENPASAR – Bali is running out of booze – and there’s not much the island’s hoteliers and bar owners can do about it.
Supplies have been dwindling for several weeks and now many well-known brands of spirits have disappeared off the shelves altogether.
“It seems to be a technical issue with the Customs department,†one hotel general manager told TravelMole.
“But no-one has been able to explain exactly what the issue is and why we are not getting out supplies through from our normal channels. Even our suppliers have been unable to explain to us what is going on.
“We have faced this problem before – generally at times of high demand – but this year the issue has gone on much longer,†the hotelier said.
Wine lovers have pretty much given up on Bali – a 300 percent tax sending the price of a very ordinary bottle of Australian plonk into the high-end luxury category.
