DOJ steps up scrutiny of American Airlines-JetBlue partnership
The Department of Justice is taking a closer look at the American Airlines-JetBlue partnership which was announced last year. Antitrust officials scrutinizing the deal have flagged concerns the partnership is anti-competitive.
The investigation is still ongoing. The airlines say they made a ‘series of commitments to increase competition and travel options for customers’ but rivals including Spirit Airlines have strongly opposed it.
The alliance is focused on cooperation on flights to and from, and through New York and Boston. The alliance was approved in the last few days of the Trump Administration.
