Dominica welcomes first cruise ship post-hurricane
TUI Cruises’ Mein Schiff 3 has become the first major cruise ship to call at Dominica after the island was hit by Hurricane Maria four months ago.
It was also the first ship to call at the Roseau Cruise Ship Berth, bringing 2,000 passengers to the Caribbean island.
More than $3 million of public funds has been invested in a clean up operation in Dominica since Hurricane Maria hit.
TUI said Mein Schiff 3 passengers were able to take excursions to the island’s major tourist attractions including the Emerald Pool, Trafalgar Twin Falls, Bois Cotlette Estate, Titou Gorge, whale watching tours and the island’s black sand Mero Beach.
The ship’s call at Dominica resulted from a familiarisation visit by executives of TUI Cruises to the island in December 2017 to assess the destination’s readiness for cruise activity.
The Mein Schiff 3 is expected to make five additional calls to the island during the 2017/2018 cruise season.
