Dozens injured as train derails at airport
Thirty two people have been injured after a train derailed and hit a platform at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago.
It is not known how fast the CTA Blue Line train was moving but it jumped a bumper at the end of the line and shot up an escalator, according to Chicago Fire Department Spokesman Larry Langford.
The injuries are not life threatening, according to early reports from the scene to Chicago Police Department headquarters, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said.
Early investigations indicate that the train operator, who admitted to be ‘extremely tired’ at the time of the accident, might have dozed off at the controls.
The CTA posted to its Twitter page that trains were stopped at O’Hare but running between the Logan Square and Rosemont stops.
Buses were being used between the Rosemont and O’Hare stops said the Chicago Tribune.
