Dream destinations for Chinese travellers
Where exactly do 1.3 billion Chinese mainlanders dream about taking that perfect holiday?
Qunar.com, China’s biggest travel website, has provided a roundup of mainlanders’ travelling and hotel booking habits.
The report is based on the site’s 51 million monthly search results from January to August this year.
According to Qunar’s database, Hong Kong and Taiwan are the two most popular destinations for Chinese tourists.
Mainlanders cited four main reasons for their preferences: no language barrier, geographically closer, abundant shopping and excellent food.
The two Chinese-speaking destinations were followed by the Maldives, where Chinese newlyweds love to honeymoon.
Mainland travellers touring Hong Kong spend around 35 percent of their total budget on shopping; and more than 60 percent of them travel with their families.
Tsim Sha Tsui, Causeway Bay and Mong Kok in Hong Kong were the top three hotel search words.
Below is a list of the 10 most popular overseas destinations for mainland tourists according to Qunar’s report.

Launched in May 2005, Qunar claims to attract 45 million unique visitors a month. China’s most popular search engine Baidu has invested a total of US$306 million in Qunar.com, becoming its biggest shareholder.
