Dreamworld investigated over new theme park safety incidents
Under-fire Queensland theme park Dreamworld is under scrutiny again after two recent safety incidents.
Workplace Health and Safety Queensland is investigating a ‘minor event’ involvng a guest on the Triple Vortex slide at WhiteWater World last week.
Owner Ardent Leisure then notified the safety regulator after a maintenance worker narrowly escaped serious injury while working on the Pandemonium ride.
One of the ride’s arms, which each weight about three tonnes, fell off during the work.
"To ensure patron and worker safety, WHSQ has taken action and continues to investigate these matters," Workplace Health and Safety Queensland said.
Dreamworld said in a statement: "We reported an event to WHSQ which occurred in our Engineering Centre during scheduled maintenance, are working cooperatively with them and have received confirmation that they are satisfied with our actions."
Ardent Leisure was recently fined $3.6 million over the 2016 Thunder River Rapids ride tragedy after pleading guilty to three charges.
Four people died after the ride car they were in unexpectedly flipped over and trapped them.
