Dubai developers target luxury Lombok resort
DUBAI – The UAE’s Emaar Properties will develop a US$600 million mixed-use project on Lombok island in Indonesia.
The project will have a 7km natural waterfront that will support a marina, residential clusters and resorts managed by five-star hospitality chains, and a golf course.
“Indonesia is our 16th global market and the Lombok development will scale up our property portfolio to a wider South/East Asian region,” said Emmar Properties chairman, Mohammad Ali Abbar.
He added, “Lombok is one of the most promising tourism destinations in Indonesia and has the potential to be a magnet for world travellers.”
In the other directioin, Asia’s hotels groups are continuing to make their mark in the Gulf region.
Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts has launched in Banyan Tree Al Areen Bahrain – a 78-villa property.
“As a global luxury chain, representation in the middle East is critical for Banyan Tree,” said executive chairman, Ho Kwon Ping.
Six Senses Resorts and Spas will soft open the Evason Hideaway and Six Senses Spa at Zighy Bay in Oman in November this year. The eco friendly resort is situated on Oman’s Musandam Peninsular, a 90-minute drive from Dubai.
The 214-room Shangri-La Hotel Qaryat Al Beri in Abu Dhabi will have a soft opening in July.
