Dubai produces a sweet set of numbers
Visitor numbers to Dubai increased by 9.3% in 2012.
More than 10 million visited the city over a 12-month period for the first time.
Key indicators including hotel guest numbers, nights, average length of stay and hotel revenues, all lifted in 2012.
Hotel revenues increased by 17.9%, helped by a 14% rise in guest nights to 37.4 million.
Dubai’s hotel inventory increased from 575 to 599 last year although the additional supply did not have an adverse effect on room rates with the Average Room Rate climbing from AED563 (USD153.2) in 2011 to AED 588 (USD160) in 2012.
Arab markets continue to provide a significant percentage of Dubai’s overall visitor numbers and 2012 saw 30% more visitors from Saudi Arabia, which is the city’s number one source market.
There was a 54% rise in the number of Russians coming to Dubai, while the number of Chinese visitors lifted 28%.
