EasyJet flight diverted after cabin crew member taken seriously ill
An easyJet pilot who diverted a UK-Greece flight after a member of cabin crew became ill in mid-air has been credited with potentially saving the man’s life.
The Thessaloniki-bound flight was diverted to Munich and the crew member was taken to hospital where he immediately had his appendix removed.
EasyJet then flew the man’s family out to be with him.
The crew member has asked not to be named, but his godmother, Lisa O’Connell said:~
"His appendix had burst and he would have more than likely died if they had carried on to Greece."
She added: "EasyJet then flew his family out to Germany straight away to be with him.
"He’s getting the best care in a great hospital in Germany now so well done, easyJet.
"What a brilliant service from a reliable airline and obviously a great company to work for especially when in a crisis. How reassuring."
She added: "EasyJet literally saved his life."
Lisa, who is a agent with Independent Travel Experts, posted about the incident, which happened on Friday, on the Travel Gossip Facebook page.
The post has attracted some positive comments by Travel Gossip members praising easyJet. One said: "Good to hear easyJet looks after its staff."
Another commented: "Great to read a positive story."
EasyJet said in a statement: "easyJet can confirm that the flight EZY8091 from London Gatwick to Thessaloniki was diverted to Munich due to a crew member being taken ill during the flight.
"The aircraft landed safely and routinely in Munich and the was met by the medical services.
"The safety and wellbeing of our passengers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority and our crews are highly trained to manage these types of situations.
"We all wish them a speedy recovery."
