EasyJet found guilty of misleading ski customers

EasyJet has been found guilty of misleading advertising after it was unable to prove that it had ski holidays available at the price stated in emails sent to potential customers.

One recipient complained to the Advertising Standards Authority after he failed to find a break on the easyJet Holidays website for the advertised price, despite visiting on the day he received the email.

EasyJet pointed out that its advert stated that it had "extremely limited availability" for the offer of a seven-night self-catering ski trip for £195, but the ASA said easyJet had not provided any proof that the holidays were available at the price stated.

"We acknowledged the stated price directed readers to small print that stated "Holiday Prices have extremely limited availability and were correct and available on the easyJet Holidays website on 05/12/2012" but considered that did not absolve easyjet Holidays from providing data showing the holiday was available for purchase at the advertised price, at the time the complainant received the e-mail," said the ASA ruling.

"In the absence of such evidence we considered that the stated price had not been substantiated and concluded that it was misleading."

The ASA ordered easyJet to hold evidence to substantiate the availability of its holidays at the advertised prices in future.
