EasyJet in talks to move HQ out of UK

Friday, 04 Jul, 2016 0

EasyJet has started talking to aviation regulators in other EU countries about relocating its headquarters from the UK, it emerged today.

And the airline’s chief executive has said privately that moving its legal HQ from the UK is ‘almost inevitable’ following last week’s vote for Britain to leave the EU, according to Sky News.

It claimed sources close to the company reported that the airline had already discussed with other member states the possibility of easyJet being issued with an air operator’s certificate.

However, it is understood that easyJet is not planning to relocate its operational headquarters to continental Europe.

Sky claimed one insider said moving the legal HQ might involve the relocation of only a handful of staff. Its UK air operator’s licence might then become a subsidiary of its new legal HQ.

EasyJet employs about 1,000 people at its Luton~base covering finance, IT and marketing, in addition to its operational staff at the airport.

Ms McCall~told Channel 4 News earlier this week that it ‘remains to be seen’ whether the company’s HQ~would be moved following Brexit.

McCall has written to the UK Government and the European Commission to ask them to make the UK remaining part of the single EU aviation market a priority.

That would allow a UK-registered airline to continue to fly without restrictions to countries within the EU, potential rendering it unnecessary for the airline to relocate to the continent.
