EasyJet launches hand luggage check-in service

EasyJet is to roll out a hand-luggage check-in service at a cost of £4 per passenger.

Hand bags can be left at the Bag Drop desk, where they will be tagged as priority and the airline promises they will be among the first to be delivered at the baggage belt at arrivals.

EasyJet charges £4 per person or £10 for a group bundle per flight. Passengers who pay for the ‘Hands Free’ service will be given small plastic bags to carry their essential items and they will be allowed to take onboard anything bought in duty free. They will also be amongst the first to board, after those with Speedy Boarding.

EasyJet said the launch of ‘Hands Free’ in France this spring was a big success, with over 9,000 passengers paying for the service in just four weeks.

It is now rolling it out across its entire network, with the exception of Gatwick.

Ancillary revenue director Andrew Middleton said:"We’ve seen a fantastic response from customers upgrading to the ‘Hands Free’ experience and we’re confident once you go ‘Hands Free’ you’ll never want to drag cabin baggage through the airport again."
