EasyJet load factor falls
Low cost airline easyJet has said passenger numbers in July were higher than this time last year, but that its load factor was down.
Compared to the same month last year, passenger numbers increased by 74.9% to 1,886,265. However most of the increase was due to purchase of rival Go last summer. Together the two airlines carried 1,724,319 passengers in July 2002, making the like for like increase a much more modest 9.4%.
Perhaps more significant is the fact that load factor fell to 85.6% from from 87.9% in July 2002. Together the two airlines had a load factor of 87.6% last July.
Chief executive Ray Webster said: “easyJet’s performance during July continues the trend predicted in our summer trading statement. Particularly pleasing is the achievement of load factors in the mid eighties, which confirms the appeal to passengers of our combination of attractive fares and convenient airports.”
