EasyJet opens new base
EasyJet will fly to up to 10 new destinations from Portugal following the decision to open its 20th European base at Lisbon Airport.
The airline, which already flies to 15 destinations from Lisbon, expects to carry an additional one million passengers a year from the airport.
Representing an investment of up to €300m, the base will open during winter 2011 with a capacity of up to seven Airbus 319 aircraft. As a result of this investment, up to 2,000 direct and indirect jobs are expected to be created in the region, said the airline.
At a ceremony at Lisbon Airport, easyJet chief executive Carolyn McCall and Portuguese prime minister Jose Socrates christened a new easyJet aircraft Pride of Lisbon.
