EasyJet passenger arrested at Manchester after ‘distressing outburst’
A passenger on an easyJet flight about to take off from Manchester has been arrested after a ‘distressing outburst’ on board.
The plane had to be turned around when the male passenger began shouting and banging as flight EXY1847 was taxiing on the runway.
According to one passenger, who put a post on Facebook, the man was shouting that everyone was going to burn and die and ‘should run while we still can’.
Greater Manchester Police said they were called to the airport shortly before 8.25am on Wednesday morning after a plane was turned around after a ‘distressing outburst’ from one of the passengers.
"Officers attended and a man was arrested on suspicion of committing a public order offence. He remains in custody for questioning," it said.
“As is standard practice, the aircraft was inspected upon landing and there were no further concerns."
A spokesman for easyJet said: "The safety and wellbeing of passengers and crew is always easyJet’s priority.
"Whilst such incidents are rare we take them very seriously, do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour on-board and always push for prosecution."
