easyJet strengthens Gatwick base with launch to Hungary

No-frills carrier easyJet has added Hungary to its list of destinations served from Gatwick by launching flights to Budapest.

Daily flights, which began on September 30, cost from £40.98, including all taxes.

The launch from Gatwick is part of a rapid move towards using the Sussex airport instead of its traditional bases at Luton and Stansted.

Gatwick will become easyJet’s largest base in Europe this winter, with the airline offering 29 routes from the airport, accounting for 15 per cent of its operation.

EasyJet chief executive Roy Webster said: “We are committed to growth at Gatwick.”

However, Webster said it had no plans to abandon regional airports.

Later this year easyJet plans to start flights from a variety of UK airports to Tallinn, Riga, Prague, Budapest, Ljubljana, Warsaw, Krakow and Bratislava.

“This is a very exciting time for us as there are many great opportunities for growth in Europe at present,” said Webster.

Meanwhile, rival Ryanair has launched its online ski guide, which is available through its site www.ryanair.com. The site provides a guide to ski destinations and resorts in Europe.
