Ebookers shares take off on bid speculation

Thursday, 10 Sep, 2004 0

Travel and tourism shares experienced mainly insignificant moves on London’s equity markets yesterday – with one major exception.

The FTSE 100 index lost 20.4 points to end the day at 4538, while the FTSE 250 dropped 10.7 points to close at 6222.3.

The big move came at ebookers, which added 45.25p to finish at 230p after it admitted it had been in talks with several companies keen to buy the online travel group.

The Independent newspaper states that the company was “considering a possible sale”, adding: “Preliminary discussions are being held in this regard with several interested parties.”

Speculation centres on Interactive, Sabre, and Cendant, the newspaper reports.
