Ecuador plans to lure travelers with Super Bowl ad
Ecuador is spending big to lure more US tourists by becoming the first foreign country to air a Super Bowl halftime ad.
The small South American nation is paying $3.8 million for the ad and eight other slots that will be shown during NBC’s ‘Today Show’ ahead of the big game.
The ad will be broadcast in 13 US markets including New York, Miami, San Francisco and Los Angeles potentially reaching a much larger audience than its 16 million population.
"Our small country offers travelers a large array of outdoor adventures, from beautiful beaches on the Pacific Coast, to the Andes Mountains, to the Amazon rain forest, to the Galapagos Islands," said Nathalie Cely, Ecuador’s ambassador to the US.
"Ecuador is a destination where you have a bit of everything so close, and that’s what makes us special," Cely said.
"We’re going to try very hard to tell the world in 30 seconds what Ecuador is about and how unique a proposition it is for Americans to visit."
The ads will feature the soundtrack of the Beatles’ song ‘All You Need Is Love’ following on from its tourism campaign ‘All you need is Ecuador’ which launched last year.
This helped increase visitation by 14% the Ecuador government said and the US is its second largest source market after Colombia.
