EL AL marks first sustainable aviation fuel powered flight
EL AL Israel Airlines welcomed its 16th Boeing 787 Dreamliner, direct from the Boeing factory in Seattle.
The journey to Tel Aviv was powered using a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) blend.
The milestone flight marks EL AL’s first use of SAF.
About 30% of the total fuel used was sustainable aviation fuel.
In June 2023, EL AL enlisted in the IATA Environmental Assessment Program (IEnvA).
The aircraft’s arrival was celebrated with a water salute ceremony, attended by EL AL CEO, Dina Ben Tal Ganancia and other dignitaries.
“The historic arrival of our first jet using SAF marks another important milestone in our strategic plan and strengthening our commitment to sustainability,” said Ganancia.
We are grateful to Boeing for our long-term partnership.”
The new Dreamliner is the fourth 787-8 model in EL AL’s fleet.
It is part of the company’s most recent order of new aircraft.
The three-class jet accommodates 238 passengers.
EL AL’s Dreamliner fleet includes 12 787-9 aircraft, which fly to long-haul destinations in North America, Europe, and the Far East.
