Emirates cancels Kiev flights amid safety concerns
Emirates has cancelled its flights to Kiev due to safety concerns.
Its Dubai-Kiev flight EK171 yesterday was diverted back to Dubai following the ‘shooting down’ of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 over Ukraine.
In a statement it said: "Our flights to Kiev are suspended with immediate effect, till further notice. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. The safety of our customers and crew is paramount, and we will continue to monitor the situation carefully."
British Airways, however, said it was continuing to operate its London-Kiev flights.
"We are keeping it under review, but at the moment our Kiev flights are still operating," said a spokesman.
Confusion arose because a 9.40am departure from London to Kiev this morning is showing as cancelled on the BA website.
But a spokesman confirmed that this service was cancelled around a month ago due to "commercial reasons" and the cancellation was not connected to yesterday’s events.
