Engineers defer Qantas industrial action……..again!
An ABC report says that the Aircraft Engineers Association will hold fire until at least February 1 with Qantas given another temporary reprieve from threatened industrial action due to start last week.
The Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association deferred its industrial action against the airline until February 1 to allow more time to negotiate an enterprise bargaining agreement (EBA), with the Association’s Steve Purvinas saying both sides are trying to show good faith.
“The option that was ultimately settled on was that there would be an extension of the period in which we would be allowed to take industrial action until February 19 this year,” he said.
“All of the leave of our members has been reinstated for the month of January and we’ve decided to hold fire until at least February 1.
“We just thought it would be an opportunity to show some good faith and hopefully that will be returned when we go to the negotiation table next.”
“Obviously it’s always going to be easier to sit down with an employer and negotiate without industrial action taking place out in the shop floor.”
