England to enforce single use plastics ban
England confirmed it will impose a plastics ban.
Single-use items like cutlery and plates will be outlawed, Environment Secretary Thérèse Coffey said.
Government data suggest 1.1 billion single-use plates are used annually.
Only about 10% of these are recycled.
“This new ban will have a huge impact to stop the pollution of billions of pieces of plastics,” Coffey said.
No start date for the plastics ban has been announced yet.
Greenpeace UK welcomed the ban but says it doesn’t go far enough.
