VisitEngland predicts a further sports-related influx of tourism spending on the back of the nation successfully bidding to host the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
The domestic tourism body’s chief executive James Berresford said: “This is great boost for England in terms of potential tourism revenue for our sports mad nation.
“Events are a big driver for tourism in England, and with the 2012 London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games looming followed by the 2013 Rugby League World Cup and our hopes for a successful 2018 FIFA World Cup bid, England will be placed firmly on the sporting world stage for many years, the future is looking very bright.”
