Entebbe Airport hails record traveller numbers
Uganda’s Entebbe International Airport had its busiest year ever for international passenger traffic in 2024.
It handled a total of 2.24 million international passengers in 2024, a substantial increase of 16% from 2023.
The airline is targeting a total of 3.5 million passengers per year.
The rise in passenger traffic comes on the back of the airport’s newly expanded terminal.
The terminal expansion includes modernised check-in counters, additional boarding gates, and upgraded baggage handling systems.
Additionally, Entebbe International Airport has made notable progress in cargo handling.
In 2024, the airport facilitated 67,731 metric tonnes of cargo, marking a 15% year-on-year increase.
Civil Aviation Authority Director General, Fred Bamwesigye, said: “These investments demonstrate our dedication to making Uganda a preferred destination for air travel in the region.”
The consistent rise in passenger traffic reflects Entebbe International Airport’s strategic development and Uganda’s growing prominence as a regional business and tourism hub.”
When fully operational this summer the expanded terminal building will expand the airport’s capacity to at least 3.5 million passengers.
The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority plans to implement further enhancements, including installing advanced air traffic management systems and expanded cargo handling, as well as boosting airline partnerships.
