Ethiopian Airlines resuming flights to Newark

Friday, 18 Apr, 2016 0
Ethiopian Airlines will begin serving Newark Liberty Airport three times a week from July.

Africa’s fasting growing carrier will fly Dreamliners from Addis Ababa via Lome, Togo to Newark commencing July 3, 2016, becoming its third US destination.

The airline also flies to Washington DC and Los Angeles via Dublin.

"New York is one of the world’s most economically powerful cities and including it in our ever expanding network will play a critical role in the expansion of trade, tourism and investment between the fast growing continent of Africa and the United States. I would like to thank all who strived hard to make the route possible," said Tewolde GebreMariam, Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines.

Ethiopian previously served Newark more than a decade ago but halted the service when it launched fights to Washington DC.

When the airline first mooted a return to the New York area earlier this year, it hinted it would probably serve New York JFK.

The dominance of fellow Star Alliance member United Airlines at Newark and its vast onward network throughout the Americas was likely a deciding factor.

Newark becomes Ethiopian’s 93rd international destination.
