European Parliament backs ABTA’s green scheme
The European Parliament has backed ABTA’s tool for sustainable travel as part of a number of proposals to improve tourism across the EU.
The Travelife Sustainability System, owned by ABTA, helps hotels and apartments monitor and manage the environmental impact they have and has been in place since 2004.
More than 15,000 properties worldwide have registered with Travelife, 1,500 have completed a full environment audit of their premises and well over 500 properties have been granted a Travelife award of Bronze, Silver or Gold.
The European Parliament today approved a report – Europe, The World's No. 1 Tourist Destination: A New Political Framework for Tourism in Europe commending the system.
"Travelife is already part-EU funded and winning an endorsement from the European Parliament is quite an achievement,” said ABTA’s head of public affairs, Luke Pollard.
