Eurostar gains GDS parity with airlines
Eurostar is to feature alongside short haul airlines on GDS booking screens.
The high speed Channel Tunnel passenger service is to be offered with real-time availability on GDSs in the US and will be available in the UK early next year.
The arrangement will allow agents to make direct Eurostar-airline price comparisons without having to make multiple searches or switching between screens.
The rail company has joined forces with Amadeus to develop a Eurostar GDS gateway, allowing Eurostar to be distributed globally by all major GDSs – Amadeus, Galileo, Worldspan, Sabre, Abacus, Axess and Infini.
Amadeus travel services and leisure managing director Albert Pozo said: “Both Eurostar and Amadeus have recognised that a priority for TMCs, agents and consumers is to provide them with the ability to easily compare fares and availability for international rail travel on a single screen alongside airlines.”
Eurostar UK and international sales director Emma Harris said: “Eurostar’s arrival on the primary screen GDS is great news for both us and our Travel Management Companies. Agents will now find it much easier to compare prices and to book Eurostar.
“The move will also give American travel agents much greater access to Eurostar’s products. Our next step is to look at other potential international markets where a GDS presence would be desirable.”
