Australia’s Cadel Evans will face major rivals when he makes his 2013 season debut in cycling’s Tour of Oman next month.

The Australian star has entered the February 11-16 tour for the first time as begins his preparation for July’s Tour de France, seeking to reignite the form that won him the 2011 title.

Tour of Oman organisers have confirmed that Evans would be joined in the field by reigning Tour de France and Olympic champion Bradley Wiggins and longtime tour rival Alberto Contador as well as fellow big names in BMC Racing teammate Philippe Gilbert, Fabian Cancellara (RadioShack Leopard) and Mark Cavendish and Tom Boonen (Omega Pharma Quick Step).

The Tour of Oman takes place during the Muscat Festival – a month-long celebration of Omani arts and culture from January 30-February 28.

Included in the 2013 festival programme is the Oman Food Festival.

Oman Tourism country manager Mona Tannous Oman says: "The Muscat festival is always highly anticipated. The 2013 program of events is a brilliant blend of Oman’s traditional and contemporary flair."
