Ex-Lastminute exec joins Opodo
Opodo has found a new commercial director with both internet and travel experience including Lastminute.com.
Stephan Uhrenbacher takes over responsibility for Opodo’s sales and marketing strategy in Germany, the UK, France, Italy and the Nordic markets.
He comes from DocMorris, an online pharmacy where he was chief operating officer.
Prior to that Mr Uhrenbacher held roles at Bild T-Online AG, Germany’s largest content website according to Opodo, and Lastminute.com where he was head of Northern Europe, and Travel Channel GmbH, where he was managing director.
Mr Uhrenbacher replaces Karen Richardson who left in January after her six-month contract expired. He will report directly to Opodo chief executive, Simon Vincent, who was once managing director of tour operations at Thomas Cook and replaced David Scowsill last year.
This is one of a series of high level appointments made by Opodo in recent months. The online agency appointed ex-British Airways Holidays managing director, Sally Balcombe to head its product division in February.
The Amadeus-owned Opodo has also been in the news this year with the acquisition of UK longhaul specialist, Quest Travel, Italian travel website Eviaggi, Scandinavian online agent Travellink and French travel company, Karavel.
