Expedia offers disabled customers dedicated tool
Online travel agency Expedia has launched a suite of search tools designed to help disabled travellers looking for accessible accommodation.
The tools will help users pinpoint which properties have accessible bathrooms, paths for travel, equipment for the deaf and braille or raised signage.
The move follows a Californian court case a year ago which obliged the online travel agent to add content and search features to Expedia.com and Hotel.com enabling people with physical disabilities to reserve rooms.
Currently the service is only available on the US site but it is hoped there will be a roll out onto the UK site in the near future
Once a user finds the accommodation they want, they can request for one or more of the specific search accessibility features on Expedia.com’s reservation page. The customer service team will then review the request and make contact with the hotel in question to make sure that the traveller’s requests are met. They will then contact the traveller to confirm the arrangements or offer a suitable alternative.
