Expedia to offer global corporate carbon offset programme
Expedia Corporate Travel is to roll out a global carbon offset programme to its corporate travel customers.
It has partnered with TerraPass, the retailer of greenhouse gas reduction projects in the US, to offer clients the ability to calculate the amount of carbon dioxide their business travel creates and buy the corresponding amount of carbon offsets to balance them.
Expedia claims to be the first travel management company to launch a global programme.
TerraPass proceeds fund clean energy projects, such as wind farms and innovative “cow power” methane capture plants on US dairies.
Expedia Corporate Travel president Jean-Pierre Remy said: “We are committed to making a positive impact on business travel, by implementing our own green travel policy, as well as through industry advocacy and the promotion of responsible travel. We invite our customers to join us in this endeavor.”
