FAA safety crackdown impacts codeshare deals
A Federal Aviation Administration crackdown is behind United Airlines’ decision to suspend a marketing agreement with Jet Airways.
The US regulator has cut India’s aviation safety ranking for the first time and has banned Indian airlines from starting new services to the US.
The FAA claims India hasn’t fixed deficiencies found in earlier safety assessments.
United said it had halted the use of its booking codes on Jet Airways flights.
Bloomberg said United’s action marked some of the first fallout from the FAA designating India as Category 2 from Category 1, the same standing as Zimbabwe, Paraguay and Indonesia.
American Airlines also withdrew its booking code from Jet Airways, covering one domestic route flown by the Indian airline.
