Falkland Islands to open tourism office in London
The Falkland Islands Tourist Board has announced plans to open a London office next year.
The destination plans to run training programmes, events and seminars for UK travel agents.
It will appoint a director of international communications to work out of the Falkland Islands Government Office in London, responsible for marketing the islands to the UK, US and emerging markets.
This post will be in addition to the managing director role in Stanley, currently held by Tony Mason.
Mason has confirmed he will stay in the post until the end of the season.
In August the tourist board released figures predicting that UK visitor arrivals will top 3,000 in 2014, up 20% on last year.
"We have for some time been considering the next steps to ensure the country’s tourism sector continues to grow and our board of directors and I believe this is the right step forward," said Mason.
