Famed Dominican Republic course to host 2016 Latin America Amateur Championship
Following a successful tournament in Buenos Aires, Argentina in January, organizers of the Latin America Amateur Championship have selected the famed Teeth of the Dog course at Casa de Campo, Dominican Republic as host of the 2016 event.
The Pete Dye designed course is widely considered as one of the Caribbean’s finest and has been acclaimed as the best golf resort in the world by the International Association of Tour Operators.
"It is a great honor for us to have been selected to host this prestigious championship," said Rafael Torres, President of Casa de Campo.
"We are fortunate that the selection committee has seen fit to bring the LAAC to what we believe is the finest golf resort in this region. The employees and the residents of Casa de Campo will be proud to be a part of Latin America’s premier amateur golf competition."
The LAAC was established by the Masters Tournament, The R&A and the United States Golf Association to further the development of golf in the South America, Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean region.
As the region’s premier amateur event, the LAAC champion receives an invitation to compete in the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club.
Built in the early 1970s, Teeth of the Dog features seven holes adjacent to the ocean and is just one of five Pete Dye-designed golf courses at Casa de Campo.
Casa de Campo is a member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts and Leading Hotels of the World and along with luxury accommodation, comprises a diverse range of on-site sporting facilities.
The complex features a 370-slip Marina & Yacht Club, Polo & Equestrian Club, La Terrazza Tennis Center, a spa and 245-acre Shooting Club.
The 2016 Latin America Amateur Championship is scheduled to take place from January 14-17, 2016.
