Family allege negligence after passenger dies on SpiceJet flight

The family of a woman who died on a flight has filed a complaint against Indian carrier SpiceJet.

A 34-year-old woman died during a flight this week from Mumbai to Varanasi after complaining of ill health and subsequently collapsed.

The woman’s family allege the airline failed to provide necessary medical assistance, a charge SpiceJet denies.

The woman, named Sangeeta, was seen by a doctor onboard, the airline says.

"A passenger travelling on board SG 704 from Mumbai to Varanasi complained of breathlessness. The passenger was attended to by a doctor onboard and assisted by SpiceJet cabin crew. She was provided with all necessary medical assistance. The captain informed ATC and requested for medical assistance on landing," a SpiceJet statement said.

She was pronounced dead by medical staff after being taken to a local hospital and a post mortem will be carried out to ascertain the cause of death.
