Family claims $3516 over Pacific Blue delays

A Report in The Press on Saturday says that the fallout over major delays on Pacific Blue flights out of Christchurch is continuing, with one customer demanding compensation of $3516 from the airline.

Sydney resident Marti Bykerk said Pacific Blue told him on Thursday he would be delayed in Christchurch for two full days.

He said his family was told by Pacific Blue that there would be no extra seats available on other airlines, so Bykerk rang Qantas to tell that airline his family would not make a connecting flight from Sydney to Brisbane.

Qantas then told him it had four available seats on one of its flights to Sydney that day.

Bykerk took the Qantas flights and said Pacific Blue should pay the full $3516 cost.

It had offered to refund only the original Pacific Blue fare.

Bykerk said he was “absolutely stunned” by the airline’s performance.

“They have clearly not given my family or other passengers their best service possible.”

A Pacific Blue spokesman said the airline would make direct contact with Bykerk.

“We have always, and will continue to, place the utmost importance on our guest service levels,” he said.

Pacific Blue passengers in Wellington and Sydney experienced more delays yesterday.
