Family cruise turns tragic as young couple falls into sea
A massive air and marine search is underway for two Australian cruise passengers who fell overboard last night.
The couple was not aboard the Carnival Spirit this morning when it docked in Sydney at the end of a 10-day cruise of the South Pacific.
Surveillance footage shows the two, a 30-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman from New South Wales, falling from the ship’s mid deck on Wednesday night, when the ship was about 185 miles north of Sydney.
The young couple was traveling with seven family members.
Carnival spokesperson Peter Taylor said "the ship immediately initiated standard missing person procedures, including a full search of the vessel, as per protocol." Police were called two hours after the ship docked.
