Fashion designer’s niece fined for air rage incident

A niece of fashion icon Ralph Lauren has been fined £1,650 in relation to an air rage incident on board a Barcelona-New York flight.

The Delta flight, with over 200 passengers on board, had to be diverted to Shannon, costing Delta £26,269.

According to a report in today’s Daily Mail, Jenny Lauren, aged 41, verbally abused cabin crew and pushed one member of staff against the aircraft wall.

It began when a flight attendant noticed the defendant crying in her seat, 21G, which was not reclining properly.

The court heard that Lauren told the stewardess to "get the f*** out of my face" and became more abusive when she was told to calm down, calling her a "fat, ugly blonde b****".

When a pilot on a rest break in the cabin intervened, she also abused him, telling him he was an "a*****e".

The flight had to be diverted back to Shannon Airport, during which time the abuse continued for more than an hour until it landed, when Lauren was arrested.

Lauren, who owns her own jewellery line, pleaded guilty to causing a breach of the peace and being intoxicated, but a third related air rage charge was withdrawn by the State in court.

Her solicitor, Sharon Curley, said the actions were ‘bizarre’ and completely out of character and said Lauren has little memory of the incident, even though she had only had three alcoholic drinks.

The charges were brought under the Air Navigation and Transport Act 1973.
