FCC pushes for more inflight connectivity
If the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) gets its way, passengers may soon have wider use of their electronic portable devices inflight.
The Hill reports that FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski sent a letter to the FAA’s acting administrator Michael Huerta last week, asking for "greater use of tablets, e-readers , and other portable devices" during flights.
Not on the table is voice communications, which the FAA has steadfastly refused to consider. The FCC’s letter promises that the agency will work closely with the FAA, airlines and manufacturers on advocating for greater inflight connectivity.
