FCO reissues Calais migrant warning

Friday, 08 Aug, 2016 0

British tourists in France are being reminded to take care if they’re passing through the port of Calais.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office said there are still large numbers of illegal migrants in and around Calais who may seek to enter the UK illegally.

It advised motorists to keep vehicle doors locked in slow moving traffic in and secure their vehicle when it’s left unattended.

More than 7,000 migrants are believed to be living in the Calais Jungle camp.

Violence broke out at the camp earlier this month when migrants piled up debris on the motorway and set fire to it to force lorries to slow down, so that they could smash the locks and stow away inside.

The Mayor of Calais has vowed that the Jungle will be ‘torn down’ imminently and police have already carried out several operations to clear parts of the camp.
