Fears of flight disruption as workers across Europe walk out

Friday, 27 Mar, 2012 0

Strikes at airports in Germany, Italy and Spain are likely to cause severe disruption for air passengers this week.

Ground handlers at German airports walked out this morning, causing Lufthansa to cancel dozens of flights for the rest of today, including services between London and Frankfurt.

EasyJet cancelled a flight between Luton and Schonefeld and warned passengers travelling from Berlin to London to travel with carry-on luggage only, where possible. British Airways warned passengers to check the status of their flights before travelling to the airport.

BA also warned that a strike today at Milan airports could affect its services and advised passengers to check their flight status.

A general strike in Spain on Thursday is likely to lead to widespread delays and cancellations and BA is giving passengers the option of re-booking to travel today, tomorrow or on April 3 to 6 inclusive.

EasyJet and Ryanair admitted the strike could cause significant disruption to their flights to Spain, including to the Balearics and the Canaries, and suggested passengers monitored their websites for further information.
