Federal funds allow Alice airport refurb to take place
The ABC reports that after more than two years of lobbying, the Alice Springs Airport looks set to get Commonwealth funding for an upgrade.
Despite the absence of Federal Government funding, work recently started on the airport overhaul, which includes new equipment to handle international charter flights, but Craig Catchlove from Central Australian Tourism says Northern Territory Senator Nigel Scullion has told him $191,000 is now on its way.
He says it means the airport can afford to invest in better quality equipment, adding, “Senator Scullion had been extremely hard working in attempting to get this money, but was being thwarted at every turn and so it does seem coincidental that his new status as a Minister has managed to come through with that money, so that’s great”.
