Ferry firm cuts commissions from Jan 1
DFDS Seaways is to cut travel agent commissions from 7% to 5% from January 1.
The company said the reduction was “a result of competitive pressure in the market and the ever increasing demands made on the industry from low cost airlines”.
Commission on holidays and short break bookings will remain at 10%.
The move follows TUI’s plan to reduce base commission to 7% from January 1 and other operators and cruise lines reviewing their commission levels.
DFDS managing director John Crummie said: “Whilst we are of course disappointed to have to decrease transportation commission, it is unfortunately a necessary measure to be taken in today’s competitive environment.
“The loss of duty-free sales on board and increasing competition from low-cost airlines has intensified economic pressure and after considerable review we have had no choice but to make this commercial decision.
“We do of course value the input travel agents have to our business and we hope our continued support with healthy commission rates for our City CruiseBreaks and motoring holidays is testament to that.
“We are proactively seeking agents who wish to be trained to promote and sell these products and most specifically we will be offering key agents dedicated one-to-one training in selling our recently launched Touring Collection.”
