Fewer than one in 10 confident of ‘normal’ overseas holiday
Fewer than one in 10 people believe they will be able to take a ‘normal’ overseas holiday in 2021, according to new data.
A poll conducted by YouGov found just 9% feel confident that such a possibility exists, with 74% believing a holiday this year will not be the same as 2019.
The research body questioned 3544 people across the UK, asking how confident they were about taking a ‘normal holiday abroad this year’.
While the poll result appears damaging, it is unclear whether it means consumers will not travel overseas, or whether they just feel a holiday will somehow be different.
Given the upheavals in world travel, strict border controls and requirements to present a negative Covid test on arrival in some countries, it is widely accepted that international travel is likely to be anything but normal for the remainder of the year.
Despite reports of a bookings surge among over 50s, it is younger people who feel more confident, with 14% of 18 to 24-year-olds and 10% of 24 to 49-year-olds believing there will be nothing unusual about taking as overseas holiday.
Meanwhile, only 6% of 50 to 65-year-olds and 7% of the over 65s said a foreign holiday will be unaffected, with 79% and 75% respectively believing otherwise.
Confidence sunk even further in Scotland, with only 5% considering a holiday will be normal.
