Fifteen Thomson hotels gain ‘green’ award
Only 15 out of 4,500 hotels audited by Thomson have achieved a new ‘eco-quality’ mark introduced by the operator to reflect their environmental performance.
The two overall Green Medal winners, recognizing standards against more than 100 environmental criteria, were Coral Beach Hotel in Coral Bay, Cyprus and Club Magic Life in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
Thirteen other hotels achieved Green Medal status from the 4,500 hotels audited.
These were:
*Riu Helena Sands, Sunny Beach, Bulgaria
*Sheraton Miramar Resort, El Gouna, Egypt
*Movenpick Resort and Spa, El Gouna, Egypt
*Club Robinson Cala Serena, Cal D’or, Majorca
*Hotel Sol y Mar Makadi Marine, Makadi Bay, Egypt
*Baron Hotel, Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt
*Grecotel Eva Palace, Komeno, Corfu
*Hotel Audax, Cala Galdana, Minorca

Thomson managing director Peter Rothwell said: “Many people are making decisions in their everyday life that reduce their impact on the environment – the Green Medals enable them to choose a hotel that is run on similar principles.
“We hope that by showing recognition for the hotels that are managed with consideration for the environment that more hotels will be encouraged to strive for good environmental practices and achieve standards required for Green Medal status.”
