Fighter jets escort plane into Stansted
Fighter jets were deployed to escort a Pakistan International Airlines plane to Stansted Airport yesterday afternoon.
The flight from Lahore to Heathrow landed at the London airport at 14:50 after being escorted by RAF Typhoons.
Essex Police said the diversion was due to reports of a disruptive passenger on board but was not believed to be a hijack situation or terror related.
The plane is being kept away from main passenger terminal while police make enquiries.
The airport remained open as usual.
Stansted is a designated airport for hijacks and major security alerts and aircraft are kept at a distant part of the air field.
