Fiji military extends coup deadline
Reports from Fiji say that the military has reportedly extended its deadline for the Government to meet its demands, or be toppled.
Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase says he has been informed the new deadline is midday, local time, on Monday.
The military commander, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, had given Mr Qarase an ultimatum to clean up his government by today or face a coup, despite winning a series of concessions from the Prime Minister.
Meanwhile the Pacific Islands forum being held in Sydney has ruled out any military intervention in the crisis in Fiji.
Foreign ministers representing 14 Pacific nations, including Australia, have held an emergency meeting to discuss ways of dealing with the imminent threat.
The leaders have urged Commodore Bainimarama to reconsider his stance and maintain respect for the rule of law.
