Fiji on high alert for tropical cyclone
Fiji is on high alert for a tropical cyclone bringing flash floods and strong winds.
Hotels and resorts are preparing for adverse weather conditions from Tuesday which could develop into a category one or two cyclone by Thursday.
President of the Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association, Dixon Seeto, said properties were stocking up on supplies, water and fuel for generators, reports the Fiji Times.
Airport authority, Airports Fiji Limited is to hold a meeting with the Fiji Met office and decide on contingency measures if necessary.
The Foreign Office said: "There is a high risk that the current weather depression will develop into a tropical cyclone in the region within the next 48 to 72 hours.
"There is an associated risk of flash floods, coastal flooding, landslides, beach and riverbank erosion and damage to roads and bridges. Electricity, water, telecommunications in some of the affected areas may be disrupted."
