Fiji Tourism Minister praises TAG members

Members of Fiji’s Tourism Action Group have been praised by the country’s Tourism Minister Bernadette Rounds-Ganilau for their efforts in getting the industry back on the road to recovery.

The Minster said that TAG has been doing excellent work which has been reflected in the tourist arrival figures, adding, ”When I say a good figure, I don’t mean one that has blasted us out of the water,” adding, “to get 28,000 visitors for January alone, given what has happened, is good”.

”I have no words in English or any other language for the work that TAG has done. TAG has bent over backwards for this country,” she said.

She says TAG has a very lean budget of $3.8million taking into account the cost of promotions overseas.

Ms Rounds-Ganilau said members of TAG used their own companies and finances to pay for their expenses of food, airfares and accommodation when they travelled.

She said, ”The members do not accept one cent from the budget, so when they travel to Australia, New Zealand, Japan or wherever in the world, they travel at their own expense,’.
